A determined tiger shifter out to win his mate and the lioness who refuses to acknowledge him... Mate Not Wanted was a page turner filled with paranormal elements, sexual tension, and two people clearly destined to be together. I loved the hero, a dominant male who was full of mischief, and the heroine who was spunky and very independent. I recommend this to anyone who loves shapeshifter romances.
What a great idea--a book that combines sports and the paranormal! There's a lot of great sexual tension between the main characters, and the sex itself *definitely* pays off. Another fantastic hook besides a paranormal sports league is a bachelor auction, which is also guaranteed entertainment for me. ) Best of all, I loved the heroine's attraction to yummy food--I was getting hungry while reading, LOL.

A billionaire who starts a paranormal sports league, knows his mate is a lioness. She's afraid to be mated because she doesn't want to lose her independence. But once she goes into heat she finally gives in to her animal needs.
Good story, steamy scenes, and shifters. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because Madison (lioness) got mad at Pierce (tiger) when he rescued her from a bear shifter. She would push him away, tell him she didn't want him and in her mind she would want him to chase her & make her submit. She just flip flopped too much.
Mate Not Wanted has a little of everything. A hero with a unique career, a fast moving plot, and a build up to some very sexy scenes.

I liked both the main characters in this story. Even though they were shape-shifters, they came across as everyday people, looking for love and their place in the world. Ms. Illyria did a great job building upon their personalities as the story unfolded. Nothing felt rushed, including the sex. However, there was plenty of sizzle leading up to the first sex scene, making it well worth the wait.

The secondary characters were great too and didn’t seem thrown in there just for the sake of the plot. All the shape shifters were fun to read about. And there’s not just one or two of them, but many.

If you like shape shifters and lots of sexual tension, I think this might be a perfect book for you.

I thought this looked like an interesting and steamy read. Plus I have a weakness for shifter stories! But sadly this book just didn’t do it for me.

I really wanted to like this story, but I found myself kind of bored during most of it. It’s not a book that is sex from cover to cover and I do applaud the author for that, Illyria actually gives us time to learn the characters first. The first intimate scene between this couple actually doesn’t start until over halfway through the book. But there really isn’t any romance in this story. Madison doesn’t give in to Pierce’s charms, but more because she has a scratch to itch and wants to ease her heat. I feel he cares for her, but he’s a bit crass at times, and I think he came on too strong sexually in the early chapters, when he was supposedly still trying to convince her to give him a chance. I just can’t commit to this couple, which is sad since I did enjoy Pierce during most of the book, he screams steaminess!

The author does try to flesh this pair out, but I think they could use a little more depth, especially Madison.

But the book did make me chuckle a few times … my favorite quote of the entire novel

Sometimes Pierce watched soap operas for a peek at normalcy.

I’m not saying that this is a bad book, but it just didn’t call to me. There are a few secondary characters that I would love to see a book on though; Ryan and Alec. Especially Ryan, he just seems so steamy and with him being bi there are so many possibilities.

I’m hoping that this book just suffers from first book of the series syndrome and that I’ll like the next one better. Time will tell, I suppose!
