I love the focus of this book on preparing for a Godly marriage -as well as the excellent focus on being a Godly single. I read it with my young daughter as a read-aloud, and she enjoyed it tremendously. (I skipped over some of the discussion sections for now - and focused more on the fairy tale parts - until she is older)

When I first got this book, I thought it would be a little too old for my elementary aged daughter. But then I noticed that her playmates were already discussing boyfriends & dating - and maybe I was wrong!

The book IS written with the assumption that all young women are "romantic" by nature - that they idealize things like flowers & moonlight & a first kiss. Not every girl thinks that way. Also, it is written with a heavy emphasis on "courtship" rather than dating - so if that is not your family culture, you can discuss your expectations about those things as you go.

This is an outstanding book for mother & daughter to read together, to prepare for those years when the culture puts a lot of stress on having boyfriends and dating.

A few reviewers make much of the author's status as a single woman - but I think that is to her credit. She talks about being a Godly single a lot in the book & the importance of living for God during the single years. "Finding a husband" is not what makes a woman a success, but rather following God's path for you - wherever that leads. And she proves that by how she lives her life.

I bought this book for my tween daughter. We enjoyed reading it together a little bit each night before bed. This book is a gentle and sweet book about teaching girls how to pray and really think about their future mate.
I read this book aloud to my 13 year old daughter so we could discuss it as we went along. It's a very sweet presentation of an immensely important subject. The language of the medieval stories is a bit corny at points, but the message is excellent. It is very good for young girls coming of age to have something that sets such high standards because the world we live in does not. I want my daughter to embrace and hold onto the knowledge that she is first and foremost the daughter of the King and to treasure the gift she is and will be in the future whether she is called to marriage, the single life or a religious vocation.

The most important message of this book to a young woman before marriage is that she is not waiting to get married, that marriage is not the ultimate goal in life, but that she needs to be the best God made her to be now. This is not a "how-to-catch-your-man" manual, and bravo for that!
My daughter consumed this book in less than 3 hours! She was relieved to read that other girls are waiting to give their heart other than herself. What a blessing to have this truth written so beautifully from a young lady's perspective!
This book isn't just about "Prince Charming." It is for every area of life. The book uses a cute and interesting story line to go along with her message. She also uses her own personal life in which she was put into uncomfortable situations. This is the best book I have found for teaching girls how to use common sense with choices, clothes, friends & people in general, and in such a way that girls will be confident in making good decisions, regardless of what others do.
We really like Sarah Mally. We had read Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends a long time ago (and need to do it again). This is a great book to do aloud with teens.

We really enjoyed how she wove a fairy tale into the teachings. We were just as interested in that as in the message of purity. I feel this helped the girls cement how waiting can be hard but they are capable of doing so.
One of the best things about this book is it is all Biblical based on how a girl should conduct herself before marriage. What I remember most about the book is in regards to modesty. There is a lot more but it has been over 2 years since I read it and don't remember everything that is in there, I remember it is a very good book and would even recommend dads to read it too, (any dad that is concerned about his daughter's purity before marriage).
My 10 year old daughter is loving this book, it is written perfectly for the young teenager. I enjoyed the book myself when I pre-read it for her. Love the way this topic is presented. Of course, it is "churchy", we are Catholic so there are areas that the author teaches their faith and I have to discuss those areas with my daughter but I don't feel like they are deal breakers. I would recommend reading either with or before your child so any areas of such concern can be used for talking points but it's an important topic and well written so very worth having this book!
