False Security A Rachel Thomas Novel Book 1 edition by Angie Martin Romance eBooks
False Security by Angie Martin is the kind of book I just couldn't stop reading. It's a new haunting love story by Angie Martin, and this author knows how to get me hooked into a tale from the first page. The book is a haunting love story, but it is more than that—it is a story of compulsion, domination and battering.
The story begins with Rachel's dream of running. The dream recurs at key points in the story and is emblematic of the book’s meaning. For Rachel Thomas, the main character, has been in the thrall of evil minds and doing her best to escape for most of her life.
At the book's start, Rachel and her best friend Danielle are living in Wichita, Kansas where they teach martial arts to battered women. Her life begins to change, we think, when, reluctantly, Rachel agrees to a first date with an attractive man, Mark Jacobson. But we soon learn that Rachel has more than an ordinary dose of fear.
As the plot unfolded, it kept me in its grip. I realized that Rachel and Danielle have been abruptly leaving towns for a long time. Rachel is adept at disguise and taking leave. As she weaves a life, trying to elude who or what or why becomes increasingly unclear. But soon the mystery surrounding her past unravels and along with Mark, I found myself in the center of a deadly front. The title, False Security, gives a clue.
Moving from town to town doesn't rid Rachel of her recurring dream. If anything, it heightens her fears, certainly the fear we feel. To disclose more of the plot would spoil it, I’m afraid. But there are plenty of twists and turns, sudden violence and deadly surprises in this tightly woven plot. Rachel Thomas can't seem to feel safe.
There are moments of terror, moments of beauty, quiet moments of love, and seething times of terror. But in the end, False Security is a beautiful love story that you will not want to miss.
And, by the way, I looked for misspellings, but didn't find them so I don't know what one reviewer was talking about.

False Security A Rachel Thomas Novel Book 1 edition by Angie Martin Romance eBooks Reviews
This book is a page turner and I loved it! Just as the book cover promises, its suspense all the way!
I followed Rachel all the way, wondering what she was hiding. It is obvious that this book was developed with time and dedication. I do hope it will go to the big screen. I will watch it again
I discovered this in a Facebook group where people advertise their books. I was intrigued by the description and decided to buy it. This was a terrific read.
The Prologue is a dark and frightening scene—a woman wearing a black dress, running through dense forest, brush tripping her bush, frightened for her life. A voice in her mind tells her she could turn back —but she plunges on, telling herself that no one in their right mind would return to Hell.
In the first chapter, we meet Mark Jacobson, the owner of a bookstore who is happy with his bachelor status and his freedom. He has never needed love—but Rachel Thomas, a customer who has returned many times to buy books that he has recommended has caught his attention in a way that makes his heart pound and keeps him looking for her.
Rachel Thomas and Danielle Palmer live in a house that is secured like Fort Knox, even though they live in Wichita, Kansas. Danielle is a waitress, Rachel volunteers at a domestic violence shelter where she teaches self-defence to battered women. Rachel helped Danielle rise above the horror of domestic abuse and they have a bond that keeps Danielle moving from place to place with Rachel, even through Rachel fears for her friend’s safety because of their association.
Rachel has a dark past. She lives with guilt and remorse for the life she has lived and fear of being forced back into that existence. She moves constantly to stay one step ahead of a man she had once loved, a man who is a ruthless psychopath who renders his own unrelenting form of punishment when anyone, including Rachel, does not do what he wants. Only Danielle knows her secrets and she willingly stands by her friend, even though she knows it could mean losing her own freedom, possibly her own life.
Rachel has always avoided relationships because of the danger that she knows lurks in the shadows, but she falls in love with Mark and he with her. She knows she should move again, but she waits too long—then she and Mark are confronted by demons from her past. The consequences of their love are tragic.
I promise you there are no spoilers in this review—in fact it barely scratches the surface of the story. This book is packed with suspense—a thriller in it’s truest form. Martin has created believable characters that pulled me in and held me from the beginning to the last page. I felt Rachel’s fear, her desire, her desperation, finally her acquiescence to something she felt she couldn’t fight anymore. I shed tears for Mark, Danielle and Rachel. I felt righteous anger over the things that had happened Rachel’s past—I felt that she’d been trapped from the time she was ten years old. I despised the evilness of the man who hunted her—knowing he didn’t have to do what he did, but he chose to and worse yet, he enjoyed it.
I found this book riveting and it had so many different layers that were gradually peeled away to finally take you to the end. I am not going to tell you more. You will have to read the book to know and, believe me, it is well worth the read.
Oh. My. God! What a gripping emotional rollercoaster. The story of Rachel absorbed me in the second I started to read False Security. Her secret and the mystery surrounding her past kept me guessing almost until the end and her fear, beyond any normal fear, spread from the pages, wrapping me in and making me bite all my nails.
I felt pure terror at places and yet I have to thank the author for balancing the story so magnificently and pacing it so that the reader has time to breathe before diving into the mysterious life of Rachel’s again.
Yet, this is so much more than just a thriller. The plot develops and grows with every page and with every page the darkness in the story gets a bit lighter. Suspense gets mixed with love and where is love is always hope, too. So if you’re hungry for a thriller spiced with romance, this book is definitely for you!
